Some weeks back Bec heard about a project and documentary made in Darlington (UK) and Bremen (Germany) which explores cycling amongst teenage girls and follows the journey of a group of girls living in these towns. Shani can spot a good story a mile away so she immediately wrote to the organisation and ordered a copy for a Hulbert St movie night.
On New Years Eve afternoon there was a knock on Shani’s door and a young lady appeared saying “You are not going to believe this but I have heard that you ordered a copy of “Beauty on the Bike” and I am one of the girls from the film!”.
Ricarda Kutscha is one of the girls living in Bremen who is holidaying in Australia and just happens to be living in Walker St in a share house, just behind the Painted Fish. As she is only here for a short while we are going to have an advanced screening of the movie on Monday 10th January, followed by a chat with Richarda about what it is like to live in a town where 25% of all trips are by bicycle!
When: Monday January 10th 7pm
Where: End of Hulbert Street, South Fremantle
Bring: chairs, cushions, pillows, stuff to keep mossies off you, all your friends.
Please Ride: You MUST show Ricarda what we can do in Freo and ride your bike to this event!
The Hulbert Street Sustainability Fiesta in South Fremantle created a weekend full of smiling faces, colourful costumes, stalls and gardens, music, food and dance. It is one of those events that show how unique the Freo lifestyle is and the people are. It was great fun and relaxation and of course the Fremantle Society was present with a stall as well.
The Hulbert Street Sustainability Fiesta in South Fremantle is on again this coming weekend, September 18 and 19 between 10am-4pm.
It will be a weekend full of fun and information with open sustainable homes, gardens and artist studios. The street will be full of stalls by local people, with food, clothing, books, art and more, and of course there will be music, buskers and other family entertainment.
