CANDIDATES’ Q&A FORUM

Members are invited to come along, ask questions  and find out where the candidates stand on important local issues.  The formal part of Forum concludes 8:40pm and conversations continue over tea and coffee.

  1. Lloyd, perhaps you are not aware the Fremantle Society has participted proactively in a number of such collaborative forums over the years, a factor that our committee is justyly proud. And yes, your committee did approved this last one.

  2. The Fremantle Society should attempt to stay neutral when it comes to political affiliations. Organising an event in collaboration with the Greens clearly damages that perception. That said, there is nothing wrong with the Society’s President, Jon Strachan and his partner, Cathy Hall, being members of the WA Greens. However, they should not inflict their political preference on the Fremantle Society’s brand. I’m confident that members would prefer to keep political parties and political lobby groups at arms length. I’m surprised that the Society’s committee backed this move, or did they? It may seem relatively harmless at first glance, but would the Society be prepared to organise a candidates’ forum in conjunction with say, the Labor Party, Liberal Party or Family First? If not, then they are showing a clear political bias.
